DRIVE means Democratic, Republican, Independent, Voter Education.

DRIVE is the Teamsters political action fund in the United States.  The fund was set up because by law the union dues can not be contributed to political candidates. 

Some Teamster contracts provide for DRIVE contributions to be automatically deducted from the employee's paychecks when a member signs up for DRIVE check-off.  If your contract doesn't have that article then a member can sign up and self pay by mailing into the International DRIVE Fund.

Thanks to wide support from workers across the country, the Employee Free Choice Act was overwhelmingly passed by the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this year.  Yet this piece of legislation that would help workers nationwide faces a filibuster threat in the Senate, even with a majority support from Democrats and Republicans.

The Employee Free Choice Act would require employers to:

•    Recognize a union after a majority of workers sign cards for union representation.

•    Provide for mediation and arbitration of first-contract disputes; and

•    Authorize stronger penalties for violations of the law when workers seek to form a union.
